Molecular Formulas of 1-Bromobutane and 1-Bromopropane

Are the molecular formulas of 1-bromobutane and 1-bromopropane identical? Are these compounds isomers or different compounds?

The molecular formulas of 1-bromobutane and 1-bromopropane are not identical. They have different molecular formulas - 1-bromobutane has a molecular formula of C4H9Br while 1-bromopropane has a molecular formula of C3H7Br. These two compounds are different compounds, not isomers. Isomers are compounds that have the same molecular formula but different structures. Since 1-bromobutane and 1-bromopropane have different molecular formulas, they cannot be isomers.

Molecular Formulas Difference

1-Bromobutane: The molecular formula of 1-bromobutane is C4H9Br, indicating that it contains 4 carbon atoms, 9 hydrogen atoms, and 1 bromine atom in its structure.
1-Bromopropane: On the other hand, the molecular formula of 1-bromopropane is C3H7Br, showing that it consists of 3 carbon atoms, 7 hydrogen atoms, and 1 bromine atom in its composition.
Both compounds have different molecular formulas due to the different number of carbon and hydrogen atoms they contain. This distinction in molecular formulas highlights the unique composition of each compound and sets them apart as distinct chemical entities.
