What happens during a thunderstorm weather event

Thunderstorm Characteristics

Thunderstorms are weather events that are usually accompanied by strong winds, and can produce heavy rain, snow, sleet, or hail. However, some thunderstorms may produce little to no precipitation at all. These storms can line up in a series or become a rainband, known as a squall line.

During a thunderstorm, you may experience lightning, thunder, and fluctuating temperatures. The combination of unstable air, moisture, and lift in the atmosphere creates the conditions necessary for a thunderstorm to develop.

In addition to precipitation, thunderstorms can also produce gusty winds, hail, and even tornadoes. It is important to stay indoors and seek shelter during a thunderstorm to stay safe.
