How NIMS Supports Interoperability, Offsite Locations, and Resource Typing
Standardization for Interoperability
Standardization is a key NIMS guiding principle that promotes interoperability among multiple organizations involved in emergency response. By following established protocols, all organizations can seamlessly coordinate and communicate during emergencies.
Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs)
Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) serve as offsite locations where staff from multiple agencies gather to coordinate and manage the response to incidents. EOCs facilitate collaboration, information-sharing, and decision-making among different agencies.
Resource Typing Categorization
Resources are categorized in resource typing based on several characteristics. These include location, which helps in identifying where the resources are available; number available, which determines the quantity of resources on hand; and capability, which assesses the functions and capacities of the resources for efficient deployment during emergencies.
